I'm Brian Pendleton and I running for City Council this year. Thanks for stopping by to learn more about myself and my positions on important topics within our community.
Before you start looking around the site, let me give you three items that are important to me and hopefully you as well.
Though we are small in area, we are not a small city. We've grown from a population of approximately 12,300 to an estimated 15,500 today, roughly a 25% increase. Much of that growth is coming from new residents in our apartment communities which means the city might experience a change in the types of core services it provides it residents.
The city has seen a large influx of new businesses in the restaurant catagory and now it's time to help fill those restaurants at lunch and early dinner by recruiting firms to bring their headquarters or large satellite offices to Falls Church.
Service is what the government of Falls Church is there to provide for all of its citizens and visitors. From ensuring we have great schools for our children to helping businesses operate smoothly, it's up to the council to provide effective budgets, policies and programs for city staff. That includes making sure that staff has the right tools to execute the council's vision.
Every weekday morning and most afternoons, I walk the streets for exercise and to help me think. Each and every day, I see people running stop signs, cars turning into crosswalks with people in them, cars nearly pulled out into the streets because they can't see traffic well enough due to bushes and trees in their line of sight, bikers blow through street lights, nearly causing accidents as cars brake to miss them. The list goes on and on.
We need to ensure that safety is a priority for our sidewalks and streets.
